The Beginning of a path less taken.....
Backyard Basic’s began as a way to create a better life for our daughter.
She was born a preemie with many health issues. As she grew we learned she was intolerant of cow’s milk/products and certain fruits, vegetables, proteins which caused her incredible pain/issues when consumed. As a parent it breaks your heart to see your child in pain, so we began to look for alternative options. We began with raising rabbits as a sustainable meat source that we could ensure did not contain any preservatives, hormones or antibiotics. We then turned to raw goats milk as a source of dairy that she could consume and unlike store bought options (soy, almond, etc) we could ensure the processing of this product from animal to consumption. We also began raising as many vegetables and fruits within our backyard and would turn to local farmers for other sources whenever possible. Since making these life changes we have seen her flourish in health and overall joy. She loves being in the backyard and cannot wait for a day when we expand to a larger farm. We raise animals as close to the standard of perfection as possible because we believe that having a quality animal is more important than the quantity of animals. Since we began this journey we have added many new and enjoyable experiences ~ Soap Making, Cheese production, Canning and Pickling, Pelt tanning and much more. We look forward to sharing our backyard experiences. |
